When Eric and I found out we would be back in Ireland for our one year anniversary shooting a wedding we were thrilled! Not only about shooting the wedding, but also being able to plan a trip to Croatia! We had originally thought about doing Croatia as our honeymoon, but decided against it because we really wanted to sit on a beach and relax rather than having to feel like we NEEDED to go on tours and the pressure to sightsee. SO we did Jamaica instead last year for our honeymoon. It was a blast – but again, we were thrilled at the second chance to make Croatia happen!
We spent our first few days in Dubrovnik which was wonderful, very touristy and most everyone speaks great English! We walked the wall all the way around the city and our room was RIGHT outside an Irish Pub! We got a kick out of that 😉  Taking a “zip line car” to the top of the mountain and sipping hot chocolate and taking in the incredible view was awesome.
One of my FAVORITE things to do when we visit places is to rent scooters and explore on our own a bit! We even found a #1 sign for our anniversary 🙂 It’s a little tradition we are starting! So we explored all over and found a smaller beach that was more locals than tourists and spent the day there.
Since we had only booked the first two nights of our trip we were sort of “winging-it” for the rest of the trip! Which is so us… not detail oriented at all! haha! But upon a few recommendations we rented a car and drove up to Mostar, Bosnia for a night.
On our mini road trip we were given the directions to find a really neat waterfall that is quite a ways off the beaten path. We would have NEVER found it had we not stopped to ask multiple times and I am SO glad we did as we could not make it all the way north to see the main lakes area that a lot of people go to. So this really satisfied my hunger to see the lakes! and yes…we both ended up in stripes that day which I did not realize until putting together this blog post haha!
Finally we made it to Spilt which is the largest city in Croatia and boy is it bustling! We thought we should probably do at least one “informative thing” that would help us learn a bit of history so we did a really great 90 min walking tour in Split and although I don’t remember all the information they told us I am glad we did it because we would have missed SO much about the city!
After a long drive back to Dubrovnik we ended our trip with a PACKED day. We did a 3 hour sea kayaking tour (yes I paddled almost the WHOLE way!) and right after that jumped on a sail boat where there was supposed to be other guests but since nobody signed up it was like a private sunset sail tour! Our guide was young and so funny 😉 I highly recommend these two activities if you go! Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our trip!
Beautiful photos, Tonie!! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Love this! Now you’re making me think about finding ‘5’ signs for our anniversary next year. 🙂 Wanna shoot our photos?
now I want to go to Croatia. That waterfall though, seriously. Looks like a beautiful place!
