What Mascara Works the Best? // Mascara Review by Seattle Wedding Photographer Tonie Christine

So, as you know, I am not really a “Make Up Connoisseur ” but what I can offer is a look at a few different mascara brands that you may know or may not know, and offer my thoughts and reviews on them! If there is a specific Mascara or maybe another line of products you have always been curious about, leave me a comment and I will see if I can get them into the line up to review them for you! So without further delay, here goes:

I applied each one almost the exact same way and the same amount of “swipes” just to keep this all legit and “scientifically sound” (HAHAH!!!) and I do take my mascara brush and roll it into the top of the lashes. (the top meaning the part that touches your eye lid when you open them 😉

First up (above): Loreal Volumous Mascara  // $5.49 Sold everywhere //  6 out of 10 stars

I have always used this in tandem with another mascara (see that below) so trying it out for the first time by itself was new to me. If you naturally have thinner lashes that maybe are longer this one might work great for you by itself! I prefer the curved brush with this one and feel like it’s a great “budget choice” as it’s an all around good mascara!

Although this photo makes it look ok…. within an hour I felt like most of it had worn off, and that my eye lashes looked “stringy”. They did not have ANY thickness at all, which is something I really love about natural looking lashes (when they are full and thick looking and you don’t have to wear fake lashes). So the 2 stars is basically for the price point and the convenience because I actually had to buy this one that one day I left the house with Mascara only on one eye because I was creating this tutorial and forgot to put mascara on! So I was in line and Old Navy and thought I should just buy it to try it out! I personally won’t be buying this one again any time soon.

So this one got a lot of attention on my Instagram and Facebook a few weeks back when I posted about it! Here’s the deal, I had NO idea when I bought it that you get two bottles… one with a “gel” (basically a simple mascara) and then one bottle with literal dry little fibers you paint onto your lashes. At first when I took the photo I was IN LOVE – mainly because of the dramatic transformation it bought to my lashes! Unfortunately this mascara lost a couple stars in my book when on the first day I realized all the little fibers tend to fall off and land under your eyes giving a black “dusty” look… But alas, I gave it a couple more days because it had such dramatic results! So I did figure out a couple tricks to make this work really well for me and I have ended dup loving it! 1.) Just don’t wear it on your lower lashes as that helps cut down the falling fibers and 2.) Gel- fibers- Gel…..put another coat of the “gel” on after a min or two from your last coat of fibers (the directions say you can put as many coats on as you want of the fibers but I found that one was plenty!) This mascara might not be my “everyday” but it sure is AWESOME.

Bad Gal Lash from Benefit // $19.00 // Sephora or Department Stores // 9 out of 10

I think I fell more in love with Bad Gal Lash as I did this Tutorial! I LOOOOVE the thickness it gives with the brush and I feel like it really does stay on all day! It’s a win to me! The only reason it does not get a 10 is that I’d love a bit more length too…. BUT I think it might be my new go-to for everyday wear!

So this has been my everyday routine for YEARS. (I thinkI might be switching to bad gal lash but not fully convinced yet) I LOVE the length that Mac Zoom lash provides and it is one of my favorite mascaras of all time! I feel like this photo does not do justice to how great this combo really is, but oh well… thats just my hurried iPhone skills at work! So I do a layer of the Loreal first to give a bit of thickness and then use the Mac Zoom Lash to add some real drama!
